RIP, IGTV

RIP, IGTV

What is IGTV?

IGTV existed so clients can create extra compelling content material cloth to engage their audience.

Instagram announced that they will be replacing their permanent channel on Snapchat, Instagram Stories, and IGTV with a permanent channel to upload videos.

With this new announcement, it would seem like Instagram is releasing the struggle for users and developing a new way for them to showcase their posts.

Benefits and disadvantages of IGVideo changes on Instagram

There are many benefits to this change, but there are some disadvantages as well. For example, users won’t be able to be notified about super-popular content unless you’re randomly browsing IGTV.

Ultimately, it comes down to whether or not the individual wants everything coming from IGTV on their phone.

PROS: Being able to post tons of content to a separate channel within Instagram is what Instagram really consists of as a platform. You can browse long videos, short videos, view Instagram stories, and read user feed posts. Instagram is becoming a one-stop-shop.

The big advantage of using IGTV is that you can list links and hashtags in the description.

You can’t list links for your followers to click anywhere else on Instagram, except for your biography website.

In this way, not only can you share the content of your video, but you can also send your viewers to several new locations to further explain your story or buy something.

CONS: Sure, big accounts get a lot of views, but still not as many as YouTube videos.

Some YouTube videos have been played more than 1 million times on the release date, while the top IGTV videos have only been played about 500,000 times.

Another drawback is the vertical format. If you need to reformat your video for IGTV, reusing your content is a bit tricky.

The purpose of this is to record the video directly from your phone, but if someone wants to create a more professional edited video, formatting it vertically can be a bit tedious.

How would Instagram’s changes affect IGTV creators?

Instagram has begun its rollout of IGTV which will be focused on longer formats. The changes to the platform have tremendously impacted its content creators. With the initial draft of IGTV promising engagements, influencer content may have been eliminated from feeds altogether with the start of IGTV.

The Future of Social Media Apps and Visual Content

Recently, Instagram announced a new update. The app will no longer show feeds of older posts instead, it will be like a TV station with static images on a screen. As the old saying “Out with the old and in with the new.”

This is something we see happen often; one minute an app is trending and popular and the next moment it is gone from common use. The reason for this change is to make way for videos as social media moves away from textual content to visuals.

Conclusion

Launched in June 2018, IGTV basically aims to be as mobile as YouTube, creating space for finding and watching longer videos.

However, long formats have never been popular. And just two months later, an app called TikTok was released in the United States.

Since then, Instagram has refocused its efforts on video comparable to TikTok in its short video format, Reels.

Launched in August 2020, Instagram is actively driving them, occupying a central position in the app’s navigation, launching ads and posting them on Facebook’s news feed.

However, the reel still has one major flaw. It doesn’t provide a consistent way for developers to get paid like YouTube and TikTok. Facebook will pay developers $ 1 billion by the end of 2022.

One day, as we scroll through IGTV and see a video interrupted by “this featured video,” or as we are scrolling through our feed on the app and we find ourselves scrolling through barely-viewed videos that have been in our feed for six months or more, perhaps this is the reason Instagram has said to its standalone app RIP, IGTV.
